Twitter presents an incredible opportunity to build relationships with the leaders in your industry, and with your target market. It’s a social medium for exposure and connections, and a great way to know and be known. Keeping those connections active and mutually beneficial is the key.

Consider the ways that you can create “followbility” with your Twitter account.

Just like any marketing strategy, you have to ask yourself what it is that your target market wants or needs from you – and deliver exactly that. The only difference between Twitter and any other medium… is that you do that in 140 characters or less.

If you blog, you need great content to build a loyal readership that keeps coming back for more. If you own a mailing list, your emails have to contain some value to keep your subscribers opening them. The same holds true with Twitter. Constant self-promotional blasts will leave you with zero following.

Your reach is your most valuable asset. This is the number of people that you can reach online at any given time, that are specifically interested in what you have to offer. This may include your blog readers, newsletter subscribers, website visitors, your networks at Facebook and MySpace, and now… your followers on Twitter.com.

Twitter users are particularly sensitive to spam in their space. Blasting out self-promotional tweets consistently is a sure-fire way to get unfollowed - and fast. That doesn't mean that you cant include links and make announcements. It simply means that you have to be both creative and tasteful about it.

Done right, ‘tweeting’ is one of the easiest and best ways to gain exposure and drive live traffic to your blog or website. Not just visitor count mind you, but real people with specific interests who are genuinely interested in what you have to say on a particular topic.

If I had to wrap it up in a bite-size nugget, my advice would be:

Keep it real, make it fresh, interact and show some personality! Your tweets should contain a good mix of current news, opinions, conversations and announcements. Reference links are welcomed, so use them liberally but with good taste.

Of course it helps if there are people out there ‘listening’ when you post your tweets. Just like any other web property, you have to stake your claim and then build your following.

Not sure where to start? Here are five super-easy ways to get the ball rolling…

1. Create a reason to be followed

Set up your account and start tweeting. Contribute something original, useful, funny or interesting to your ideal ‘follower’. Most people will scan your profile before choosing to follow you, so make sure there’s something there to interest them at first glance.

2. Search for people you already know

Use the search box at the top of your Twitter screen to search for people you already know. If you find them on Twitter, follow them! Look for authorities/leaders in your niche, blog authors you enjoy, people you connect with on other websites, etc. Twitter is a very social site and people you follow will often follow you too.

3. Put the word out!

Invite people to follow you on Twitter. Blog about it. Mention it in your newsletter. Put out a MySpace bulletin. Add a Twitter widget to your Facebook profile. Let people know about this cool new way to stay in touch with you!

4. Get involved in the current discussions

Reply to tweets you find interesting. If they reply to your response and a dialogue gets started, your twitter link will end up on their profile page. A person with a strong following, or even a smaller but targeted following, could end up sending you several new loyal followers.

5. Be consistent and let it grow naturally

Do the first four steps consistently, and you’ll find that your Twitter following grows daily. Post a good mix of resources, humor & personality, news and updates throughout the week or even throughout the day.

Bonus Tip: Use your real name on your Twitter account – or the name people will most likely know you by online, such as a common username. This will help people find you easily when searching for you on Twitter or Google.

Referring Other People to Traffic Echanges

Another very effective way to earn credits is to refer other marketers to the traffic exchanges you are a member of.

You can do this easily by sending people to a referral URL, which you can find in the member's area of any traffic exchange.


A referral URL is a link to the traffic exchange home page that includes your personal id code. When someone visits your  referral URL, then signs up with the traffic exchange, they are placed in your downline.


Often, an exchange will award you with an instant referral bonus for each new member that joins your downline. This instant bonus could be anything from 50 credits, to 1,000 banner impressions, depending on the exchange. In addition to instant bonuses, most traffic exchanges give you a percentage of the credits your referrals earn when they surf for traffic.


For example, you might receive an amount of credits equal to 10% of your direct referral's surfing activity. In this example, you would get one credit for each 10 credits your direct downline earns.


Most exchanges allow you to benefit from multiple referral levels, so you could even earn free traffic when your downline's referrals surf for traffic.


Even better than free traffic, the more progressive traffic exchanges are now offering commissions for upgrades and purchases made by your direct referrals.


Purchasing Credits:


You can also purchase traffic, banner, and text link credits from most traffic exchanges. This is quite useful if you don't have a lot of time to surf, or if you just want to add some extra "punch" to your efforts. Most credit packages are quite reasonably priced, so your advertising dollars will go a long way.


Winning Credits:


The majority of traffic exchanges now support random credit winnings during member surf sessions. In fact, with many programs, you are guaranteed at least a small winning at regular surfing intervals. Surfing contests, referral contests, and random drawings are other examples of how traffic exchange users can win free traffic credits.


Additional Ways to Earn Credits:


Many traffic exchanges provide their members with alternative methods of credit generation. For instance, an exchange might award credits for reading solo email ads. Some programs also have a "search for credits" feature. There are even a few programs that allow members to earn credits for displaying their referral URL.


There is a good deal of originality in this industry, and program owners are continually finding new ways to reward active members.

Do I Surf Enough Or Too Much?

Surfing enough or too much is an interesting question.


The main thing to understand is that the internet is a worldwide market. Anything that you can do to keep your page in rotation 24/7 is important.


You can get subscribers or purchasers at any time because it is prime time somewhere in the world. That is one of the reasons that focusing on traffic exchanges that can deliver you the most traffic and best results.


Now the key is to surf enough to keep a constant flow of credits being seen. This has been tested and shown to be the most effective way to promote almost any type of page.


Having six to ten of the better performing exchanges constantly showing your page whether you do it by surfing sufficiently to keep credits there or purchasing credits will give you the appearance of being everywhere.


The average surfer will be surfing 4-12 or more exchanges and is likely to have at least one of your better performing exchanges in that rotation. If you are constantly being seen a few times every time that they surf you will brand yourself and your promotion in a way that will become invaluable to you over time.


This will eventually start to make your pages more effective just because they are your page and you have now gotten a reputation of being a doer and not a wannabe.


So the final answer is to surf or buy enough to keep a constant rotation and your effectiveness will increase many, many times over.

A positive relationship requires mutual trust. Without trust, spouses, diplomats, friends and co-workers cannot build an enjoyable relationship.

Sadly, many people think that they have a great relationship as long as "they can get away with it", rather than ensuring they are trustworthy.

Many - not all, of course - divorces boil down to one partner or both devaluing trust. War is usually the result of one or more countries or leaders failing to ensure they are trustworthy. And often on-the-job problems are the result of missing trust.

Think about the people you have a relationship with:

- boss, employee, co-worker, business partner

- spouse, child, parent, sibling

- friend

- your child's teacher, a neighbour

Have you earned the trust of these people? When you give your word to them, do you ALWAYS mean it? And do they know that you do? If not, now is a great time to start building the trust so vital to positive relationships.

If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking. This Buddhist proverb gives a remarkably simple prescription for all that ails us. Face in the right direction, do what is right, do what feels right for you, do what will help others and advance the cause of good.

Then just keep going. You might stumble, but keep going. You might get distracted. But keep going.

OK, maybe it is a little more complicated than that. But facing the right direction and keeping on going is pretty good formula into which to cram all the complicated stuff.

First if you are serious about building a business you need to have some type of web hosting. You want to be promoting you at all times and this is impossible without having some type of web hosting.

To make an effective splash page it should follow this formula. Jon Olson, owner of I Love Hits and editor of Hit Exchange News calls it the ACA formula for splash pages. Attention, Curiosity, Action.


You need to grab people's attention. A good graphic and strong headline will help you with this. Remember, the person surfing is looking to generate credits and if you don't catch their attention you are not going to get the response you want.


This area will be a short text block that doesn't sell anything but does create a curiosity for more information. This will get your prospect where they just want to know more.


Now if you have done the first two steps properly this becomes crucial. If you don't ask people to do something they usually won't so have a very specific action that you want the person to take.

Submit your email for more information. Click here. I can't tell you how often I see pages the follow the steps above but never ask for the action. Always, always, always make sure the prospect knows exactly what you want them to do.
